St.
Mary of Nazareth Hospital, an inner city hospital, has a 2.4 MW
cogeneration system consisting of three 800 kW Waukesha natural gas
fired engines. Heat recovery from the engines provides the hospital
with 11,500 lbs./hr of low-pressure steam. The steam is used to run
a 600 ton absorption chiller during the cooling season and provides
steam for heating during the heating season. The system provides
the hospital with low-cost, reliable electricity as well as significant
savings on their heating and cooling costs. |

Sundstrand Aerospace, a world leader in
turbine engine components for the aviation industry, has two power generation
facilities that were installed by Ballard Engineering.
One of these is a 6.3 MW system consisting of 6 Waukesha natural
gas fired engines (Plant #6). The other is a 3 engine, 3.5 MW system (Plant #1).
Both systems were designed so that heat recovery could be added at a future date.
