One
of the largest machine tool companies in the world, Ingersoll Milling

their energy costs the first year of operation. This system consists of five
650 kW Caterpillar natural gas fired engines with heat
recovery steam. The total system can produce 4.9 MW of electricity
and 15,000 lbs./hr of low-pressure steam. Ballard Engineering was
awarded an ASHRAE Energy Performance Award in 1988 for this

Jay
Plastics is a supplier of automotive equipment in Ohio. Faced with rising
electricity prices and a need to stay competitive, they decided to install
a 2.4 MW power generation system. Their on site generation allows them to
take advantage of real time pricing of electricity. They produce
their own electricity when the purchase price is over their cost
to produce it and they buy electricity from the utility when the price
is less than their cost to produce it. Real time pricing is a new
development in the utility industry and companies that can take advantage
of it will achieve an edge over their competitors. |
